Proposal Argument
In her letter to the CEO of Stone's End Restaurant and Brewery, Laurel Wilson presents the problem that servers make more money than hosts because they receive tips. She states that hosts do an equal amount or more work than servers and that the difference in wages is unfair. She presents her argument in a reasonable way and suggests possible solutions. She also uses her personal story in an attempt to make her point more valid. However, her argument comes across as very self-serving considering she only uses herself as an example and it seems like she's whining. She doesn't really provide any facts and uses personal opinions instead to support her argument.

I agree with you Mei-Mei that Wilson should have made some more references in her letter to the CEO, however had she done that it could have come off as a "he said, she said" type of letter. Perhaps she should have gone to her manager for a raise or better yet, written this before she quit.
I do think she has some support in her proposal argument when she mentions, "I later discovered that many other restaurants not only tipped their hosts, but also gave them a clothing allowance." (p.340) With this support, should have come evidence - in that, by dropping some names.
I also feel that Wilson should have been more blunt about the fact that by increasing the hostess's pay, it will bring more competition to not only the host, but to the servers. They are going to want more money if parts of their tips are being taken out.
